Itse tehtyjä joululahjoja - Self-made Christmas presents

Nyt kun joululahjat on jo annettu, niin voin näyttää teille kuvia muutamista itse tekemistäni lahjoista. Valtaosa on ommeltuja juttuja.

Tänä vuonna en poikkeuksellisesti neulonut yhtään sukkaa (paitsi muutaman minisukan nukkekotiin).


Now when all of the Christmas gifts have been given I can show you some presents that I made myself. Most of them are made by sewing. 

This year I didn't knit any socks which is unusual. Okay, a few miniature socks for the doll house.

Polttokuvioidut syömäpuikot. Näitä tein kaksi kymmenen puikon settiä.
Etched chopsticks. I made two sets of ten of these.

Talipallo kahvikupissa - A coffee cup bird feeder

Erilaiset lintujenruokintaideat on innostanu mua ihan hirveesti viimepäivinä.

Tää "kahvikuppitalipallo" on yks niistä. Tykkään tosi paljon vanhoista esineistä ja tässä vanhat söpöt kupit tulee kivasti näkyville ihan uudella tavalla. Ja on samalla vahingossa jatko-osa mun "lintujen kahvila" -teemalle.

Eikun ripustuspaikkaa etsimään...

Kai ne muuttolinnut on jo kaikki lähteny? Etteivät jää tänne ruoan perässä roikkumaan ja kuole kylmyyteen, jos aloittaa ruokinnan liian aikaisin.

All kinds of bird feeding ideas have excited me these last few days. 

This coffee cup bird feeder is one of them. I love old items and this is one way of getting cute old coffee cups in sight. By accident it's also a sequel to my birdie café theme.

Now I have to go and find a place to hang them...

Have all the migratory birds flown to the south from Finland yet? So they won't stick around because of the food and die in cold if I start feeding birds too early.

Neulatyyny vanhasta munakupista - A pincushion from an old egg cup

Mielenterveysnäpräilin pienen neulatyynyn.

Pohjana käytin vanhaa munakuppia. Tää jäi heti keittiökäyttöön.

Mulla ei oo tähän sen kummempia ohjeita. Kankaasta leikataan reilu ympyrä. Ympyrän reunaan harsitaan kiristyslanka, jonka avulla kangaspyörylän saa kätevästi pussukaksi. Pussukka täytetään vanulla.

Tässä vaiheessa pallo kannatta sovittaa munakuppiin. Lisää tai vähennä tarvittaessa vanua. Kun pallo on sopivan kokoinen, sulje se. Sulkemistyylillä ei ole väliä, koska pallon suuaukko jää piiloon munakupin sisään. Pallo ja halutessa koristenauha (mulla tässä pientä pompom-nauhaa) liimataan munakupin sisäreunaan. Itse käytin Erikeeperiä.


For the sake of my mental health I crafted this small pincushion. 

The base is an old egg cup. This pincushion stayed in the kitchen where I use it almost daily.

I don't have any official instructions for making this. Just cut a fair sized circle out if fabric. Sew the loose stitches to the circle edge to make a pouch. Fill the pouch with polyfill stuffing. 

Fit the ball to the egg cup. Increase or decrease stuffing until the size is perfect and then close it. It doesn't matter how you close it because it's gonna be inside of the egg cup. 

Glue the ball and add some ribbon if you like (I used a small pompom-ribbon) to the inner edge of the egg cup. I used Erikeeper (a general purpose glue).

Jee marraskuu!

Jouluvalokausi on virallisesti alkanut. Ainaki mä rupeen kaipaamaan pieniä tuikkivia valoja heti pyhäinpäivän jälkeen. Ne on niin ihania tässä pimeydessä.

Näissä kuvissa näkyy myös yksi mun tekemistä kylteistä. Se on kyllä vähän valheellinen... ei meillä ollu viime viikolla siistiä. Ehkä viime vuosikymmenellä? Siivouksen jälkeen koti pysyy siistinä ehkä puoli tuntia. Sit on taas vaatteita ja leluja ympäriinsä. Ja kaikki sohvatyynyt valtavana pomppuratana.


Yippee, November! 

Christmas light season has officially started. I for one will start to miss the little twinkling lights right after halloween. They are so lovely in this darkness.

These pictures also show one of the signs I made. It's a bit false though... our house wasn't clean last week. Maybe last decade? After cleaning our home stays clean for about a half an hour. Soon there are clothes and toys all over. Also all the cushions from the couches form a giant bouncing track.

I twisted a string light around an old willow heart. This is in our porch window.  

Pipo villapaidasta - Wool sweater beanie

Flunssa iski ja joudun jumittamaan kotona.

Ärsyttävää olla sairaana. Remonttia ei pysty tekemään ja tanssitreenit jää väliin. Onneks mies vei isommat pojat uimahalliin ja mulle jäi tänne vaan pienin nukkumaan päikkäreitä. Saan oikeesti lepoa ja rauhaa. Nyt kun en pysty riehumaan remontin kimpussa, niin hyödynsin tän pienen rauhanhetken kevyeen ompeluprojektiin.

Tää on tilaustyö. Tarkoituksena on tehdä vanhasta liian pienestä villapaidasta pipo ja pitkävartiset kynsikkäät.

I've got a flu and I'm stuck at home. 

It's annoying to be sick. I can't do any house renovations and I couldn't go to my dance practice. Luckily my hubby took the bigger boys to swimming hall and I'm here at home accompanied only by my smallest boy who's taking his nap. I'm really getting some peace and quiet. Now, when I can't tackle any renovation issues, I took advantage of this little moment of peace and did an easy sewing project.

This was ordered from me. I'm supposed to make a wool hat and hand warmers out of an old sweater.

Pipon kaava:
 Mittaa päänympärys, jaa se kahtia ja miinusta kaksi senttiä. Esim. 56cm päänympäryksellä kaavan leveys on 26cm. Ota lautanen, jonka halkaisija on sama kuin kaavan leveys ja piirrä sen avulla ympyrä paperin alakulmaan. Taita piirretty ympyrä "pituussuunnassa" kahtia ja piirrä suora viiva ympyrän reunasta paperin alareunaan kuvassa näkyvällä tavalla. Mittaa ja piirrä ympyrän yläreunaan halkio. Leikkaa kaava irti. Halkion reunat kannattaa leikata hieman kaareviksi.

The beanie pattern:
Measure the head circumference, divide with two and take off two centimeters. For example, with 56cm head circumference the pattern width is 26cm. Take a plate of which diameter is the same as the pattern width and draw a circle to the lower corner of the paper. Fold the paper in half "lengthwise" and draw a straight line from the side of the circle to the lower side of the paper, as in the picture. Measure and draw a slit to the upper side of the circle. Cut the pattern. The slit edges should be cut slightly curved.

Käänsin paidan nurin ja leikkasin kaavan avulla pipon yläreunan. Jätin paidan oman resorin taittovaraksi.
Ompelin leikatun reunan.
I turned the sweater inside out and cut the upper side of the wool beanie with the pattern.
I left the sweater's ribbing for folding. Then I sew the cutted line.

Leikkasin halkion.
I cut the slit.

Asetin halkion reunat vastakkain ja ompelin.
I set the slit edges against each other and sew.

Valmis.
Done.

Kynsikkäitä varten leikkasin paidan hihat vaan poikki, tein peukaloille reiät
ja ompelin kaikki leikkuureunat siksakilla.
For the hand warmers I just cut the sleeves, made holes for the thumbs
and finished all the cut edges using a zigzag stitch.

Heijastimia - Some reflectors

Nyt on niin pimeetä, että ulkona on ihan hengenvaarallista liikkua ilman heijastinta. Tässä muutama mun näpräämä pikku-henkivakuutus. Materiaaleina oon käyttänyt paksua huopaa ja heijastinnauhaa. Takana on rintakorulukko.

These days it's so dark outside that it's life threatening to walk there without a reflector. Here's a few little life insurances that I made. As a material I used thick felt and some reflector ribbon. In the back I've attached a brooch lock.

Tähän yksilöön tuli ärsyttävä pikku vikatikki. Jäi omaan käyttöön.
This star has a bad stitch. Therefore I kept this one to myself.

Origami-valosarja - Origami light garland

Tästä valosarjaideasta tykkään tosi paljon.

Aion toteuttaa tän uudestaan tänä vuonna. (Tää edellinen koki kohtalon lasten käsissä.) Tekemiseen tarvitaan vain origamipapereita 15x15 cm ja led-valosarja.

Origamikuutiot taitellaan vesi-ilmapallotekniikalla, puhalletaan auki ja sitten vaan työnnetään valosarjan lamppu puhallusaukosta sisään. Mulla nää on pysyny ihan hyvin kasassa, jos eivät ole joutuneet pienten lasten käsiin.


I like this light garland idea very much.

I'm gonna do it again this year. (This previous one met its faith in the hands of my baby boy.) You only need some origami papers 15x15 cm and a LED light garland to make this. 

Fold the origami cubes using the water balloon technique, blow it open and just push the lightbulb through the blowing hole. In my home these have remained well in one piece unless they've ended up to the hands of small children.

Virkatut tuikkukupit - Crocheted tealight holders

Virkkasin tilaustyönä muutaman tuikkukupin. Onnistuin mielestäni ihan hyvin. Malli on oma. Lanka on jotain tiskirättibambulankaa. Oli mielestäni sopivan rouheaa tähän projektiin. Lasipurkit on vanhoja lastenruoka- ja majoneesipurkkeja. Paloturvallisuussyistä jätin virkatun osuuden lasipurkin reunan alapuolelle. Pilttipurkit voivat olla vaarallisia oikeiden kynttilöiden kanssa käytettynä. Niissä kannattaa käyttää vain led -tuikkuja.

Huom! Ethän jätä koskaan palavia kynttilöitä valvomatta.

I made a few crocheted tealight holders. They turned out pretty good. This is my own design. The yarn I used is some sort of a bamboo yarn for dishcloth making. I think it was perfectly rough yarn for this project. The glass jars are old baby food and mayonnaise jars. For the fire safety reasons I left the crocheted part under the mouth of the jar. Small Finnish baby food jars can be dangerous if you burn real candles in them. Use only LED tealights.

Remember! Never leave burning candles unsupervised.
