Pitsireunaiset villasukat - Knitted socks with lace edge

Hirveä neulomisvimma iski. Parasta ensiapua tarjosi pieni sukkaprojekti.

Koska käytän tosi paljon maihareita, halusin sukkiin pitsireunan, joka pilkistää maihareiden varren yli. Hyvä vinkki löytyi Pinterestistä Villasukat matkalaukussa -blogista.  

Novitan pitsivillasukkien ohjeesta neulotaan yläreuna ja jatketaan tavallisena villasukkana. 

Pitsiosiota neulottaessa silmukat jaetaan kolmelle puikolle (16 silmukkaa/puikko) ja tavallisen sukan osuuteen siirryttäessä silmukat jaetaan neljälle puikolle (12 silmukkaa/puikko). 

Harkinnassa on vielä koristelenko varret pienillä ruseteilla vai esim. napeilla. Vai koristelenko ollenkaan. Yritän pitää yllä lankojenostoboikottia ja käyttää pois kertyneitä varastoja. Näihin sukkiin langaksi löytyi kerä Novitan Nallea. 7veljestä on Novitan ohjeissaan käyttämä lanka.

I got hit by a compelling knitting mania. The best "first aid" was offered by a small sock project. 

Because I use combat boots every day, I wanted to knit the socks with lace edge that peeps nicely from the boots. I found the perfect tip from the blog "Villasukat matkalaukussa" in Pinterest.

First you knit the lace edge from the Knitted lace socks by Novita pattern and then continue knitting as a basic knitted sock. (I'm sorry, the links for these patterns are in Finnish) 

When you are knitting the lace, divide the stitches for three needles (16sts/each). When the lace is done and you start doing the basic sock, divide the stitches for four needles (12sts/each).

I'm thinking whether to decorate the sock with small bows or buttons or not to decorate at all. I'm trying not to buy new yarn (because I have lots of different kinds of yarn in my house). I found some Novita's "Nalle" yarn for this project from my yarn stocks. The yarn used in those patterns above is Novita's "7veljestä".

Ekat kassit valmiina! - The first bags are ready!

Oujee! Mun sabluunakokeilu onnistui ja ensimmäiset kassit ovat nyt valmiita.

Sabluunoiden tekeminen oli tosi jännää hommaa. Monessa vaiheessa oli mahdollisuus tyriä ja onnistuinkin saamaan itselleni muutamia kunnon tykytyksiä. Täytyy vähän harjoitella lisää tätä valotusemulsiotekniikkaa, että voin laittaa tänne vinkkejä aiheesta.

Tässä kuitenki kuvia ensimmäisistä yksilöistä. Kassit ovat kierrätyspuuvillaa.


Oh Yeah! My screen printing experiment worked out fine and the first bags are ready.

Making the screens was very exciting. There were many opportunities to screw the whole thing up and I managed few times to give myself some palpitations. I have to practice more of this photo emulsion technique so that I can put some tips here about that.

Päätin opetella silkkipainoa.

Ja opetella tekemään sabluunoita valotusemulsion avulla. Heh heh. Saas nähdä miten mun käy. Tähän on liittynyt myös paljon kamppailua tietokoneen ja tulostimen kanssa, eli oon todella ulkona mukavuusalueeltani. :D

Ekat seulat pitäis olla nyt kuivat ja kohta meen valottamaan ne. Pitäkää peukkuja...

I decided to learn some screen printing. And also to learn how to make the screens with photo emulsion. We'll see how it turns out for me. There has been a lot of struggling with the computer and printer so I'm really out of my comfort zone with this one. :D

The first two screens should be dry now and soon I'm  gonna go and expose them. Keep your thumbs up for me.

Farkkukassi ja sulkaheijastin - A denim bag and a feather reflector

Tässä muutamia lahjoja, joita olen tehnyt.

Farkkukassi on tehty siskoni vanhoista farkkushortseista.

Tein kassin ensin kokonaan farkusta, mutta yläreuna jäi jotenkin kiemuraiseksi. Hetken kassia tuijoteltuani leikkasin koko kiemurtavan reunan pois ja ompelin tilalle vaaleanpunaista kuppikakkukangasta. Samasta kankaasta tuli kivasti myös etutasku ja kantokahvat.

Here are a few presents that I have made.

The denim bag is made of my sisters old denim shorts. 

First I made it completely out of denim, but the upper side was kind of meandering. After I stared it for a moment I cut off the whole meandering edge and replaced it with a pink cupcake fabric. And the same fabric looks nice in the front pocket and carrying handles too.

Sulkaheijastimeen käytin paksua huopaa ja heijastinkangasta. 

Piirsin ensin sulasta mallikappaleen ja leikkasin sitä kaavana käyttäen kaksinkertaiseksi taitetusta heijastinkankaasta (oikeat puolet vastakkain). Ompelin heijastinsulat ompelukoneella huopapalan molemmin puolin. Leikkasin huovan sulan muotoon vasta ompelun jälkeen. Kuviot piirsin mustalla Sharpie -kynällä. Pieni reikäniitti vahvistaa ripustusnauhan reikää.

I used a thick felt and reflector-fabric to make this feather reflector. 

First I drew and cut a feather pattern and used it to cut the feathers out of twofold reflector-fabric (put the reflecting sides against each other). I sew the feathers with sewing machine to the both sides of the felt piece. After sewing I cut the felt into a feather shape. I drew the patterning with a black Sharpie. A small eyelet makes the ribbon hole stronger.

Kylmien päivien kotitossut - Warm home booties

Nyt kun on ollut tosi kylmä, niin villasukatkaan ei riitä pitämään jalkoja lämpimänä.

Onneksi löysin vahingossa lasten kenkiä etsiessä omat vanhat talvikengät vintistä. Nää on jotkut valeuggsit, mutta kuitenkin aitoa nahkaa. Ihan mielettömän lämpimät kotikäytössä! Suosittelen lämpimästi ulkokenkiä sisäkengiksi kylmillä säillä. Eikä sukat kastu, jos astuu vahingossa lasten läikyttämiin maito-, vesi- tai kiisselilammikoihin.

Now when it has been freezing, even wool socks can't keep your feet warm enough. 

Luckily, by accident, I found my old winter boots from the attic when I was looking for some kids' winter boots. They are some fake-uggs, but they are real leather. Just insanely warm in home use! I highly recommend using outdoor boots indoors in cold weather. And your socks won't get wet if you step on a milk-, water- or pudding-poddle that kids have spilt.

Risukranssi - A twig wreath

Tuli taas yhdistettyä lasten ulkoilutus omiin projekteihin.

Tehtiin kävelyretki lähimetsään, mistä kerättiin myrskyn pudottamia koivurisuja. Risuista vääntelin tämmöisen kranssin. Se pysyy kasassa rautalangan ja pitsin avulla. Saa nähä miten kestää.


Once again I combined taking the kids out to my own projects. 

We took a walk to nearby forest were we collected birch twigs that had fallen in storm. I used those twigs to make this wreath. It stays together with an iron wire and lace. We'll see how it lasts.

Paperitähtivimma - Paper star mania

Innostuin tekemään paperitähtiä. Aaagh!

Ekaa kertaa tätä mallia kokeilin ja heti lähti homma lapasesta. Tää on ihan hirveen koukuttavaa. Vihdoin hyvä kohde vanhoille skräppäyspapereille. Kokeilin tehdä muutaman myös vanhan kirjan sivuilla. Niistä tuli aivan ihania.

Näitä vaan tulee ja tulee. En pysty lopettamaan.

Pojatkin innostui tekemään. Kahdeksanvuotias jaksoi yllättävän hyvin keskittyä taittelemaan ja liimaamaan.

I was inspired to make some paper stars. Ugh! 

I tried this model for the first time and it immediately got out of hands. This is SO addictive. Finally a good use for old scrapping papers. I also made a few of the pages of an old book. They turned out lovely.

These just keep on coming. I can't stop making them.

The boys also wanted to try. My eight-year-old focused so well on folding and glueing that I was all surprised.

Pieni koristepenkki - A small decorative bench

Ostin Koiramäen pajutallista tällaisen pienen penkin.

Se jotenkin kaipasi pehmustetta, joten surautin yhden heti kotiin päästyäni. Ja pari tyynyä. Tyynyistä tuli vähän liian pienet, mut se ei haittaa. Niille on tilaa nukkekodissa.

Tähän tulee muutama Mailegin tonttu istumaan joulun ajaksi ja sen jälkeen varmaan jotain muuta. Luulen tosin, että toimintahahmot valtaa penkin heti, kun pienin mun pojista herää päikkäreiltä.

Olin oikeassa.


I bought this small decorative bench from Koiramäen pajutalli. 

I thought it needed some seat cushions so I made one as soon as I got home. And some pillows. The pillows ended up a bit too small but that doesn't matter. I've got room for them in my dollhouse.

There will be some Maileg pixies sitting in the bench during Christmas time and after that something else. Though, I think my youngest son's action figures will take over this bench as soon as he wakes up from his nap.

I was right.
